Sustainable textile coatings for medical applications

In recent years, Covestro has developed new polyurethane raw materials for state-of-the-art wound care under the trade name of Baymedix®. These include raw materials for wound dressings that assist in the healing process and also offer numerous design options. These raw materials are used, for example, in absorbent foams manufactured from Baymedix® FP, adhesives with skin contact made of Baymedix® A and films based on the waterborne products Baymedix® FD and CD.

A new focus of Covestro’s material developments are applications in medical textile coatings, for example in surgical clothing, mattress pads for hospitals, coatings for medical furniture and medical bandages. The company is presenting its raw materials for sustainable waterborne textile coatings that have good tactile properties and improved resistance to disinfectants at the Compamed trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany, from November 14 to 17. These materials are also suitable for latex-free elastic self-adhesive bandages and secondary fixing.

Covestro is additionally showcasing material solutions with thermoplastic polyurethane films and the high-performance plastic polycarbonate (PC) that fulfill the demands of both medical technology manufacturers and patients.

About Covestro:
With 2015 sales of EUR 12.1 billion, Covestro is among the world’s largest polymer companies. Business activities are focused on the manufacture of high-tech polymer materials and the development of innovative solutions for products used in many areas of daily life.

Medtec
